Backpacking Accommodations In Kenya

We all love to travel differently, and nothing varies from one person to another as accommodation preferences. There are those who want a quiet calm abode, there are those that want luxury and there are still those who just need somewhere to lay their heads, and more. Accommodation is one of the basics you need to sort out during travel escapades, and thus is very important. Today I will share simple backpacking accommodation options around Kenya, for when you feel like doing an impromptu affordable travel. These can also be awesome camping spots as they have open spaces.

1. Distant Relatives – Kilifi @KilifiEcoLodge

The best in the game(to me)😎. Distant Relatives is a unique ecolodge, hostel and backpackers, a budget-friendly alternative to the hotels of the Kenyan Coast. And for as less as Ksh. 1000 in low season and Ksh. 2000 in high season, you will get a bed here. There are dorms, shared rooms and single rooms.

DT is next to the beach, with a very tree-sy surrounding hence creating a cool environment around. There are open spaces to lie around, a swimming to waddle in and a volleyball court(or football) to get your muscles do their thing. The interior is lovely, with a lovely bar that you can sit around and make new friends while at it.

You can see more of it on kilifibackpackers.com.

2. Manyatta Backpackers – Nairobi

Manyatta is located on Milimani/Jakaya Kikwete road just past the junction of Milimani and Ralph Bunche Roads in Nairobi. It contains a house with a capacity to host up to 30 people, with prices starting from US$ 15 on a bed and breakfast basis.

As if you need any convincing to go to Diani. Diani Backpackers is your spot if you need to avoid selling your kidney for accommodation in Diani. With a swimming pool, Free WiFi and a fully stocked bar, this is almost as good as the hotels you will pay quadraple of the amount you will pay here.

Diani backpackers is 400M from the beach, giving you a chance to have a short walk to stretch your legs. There are also open spaces to jump about. Accomodation here starts at Ksh. 1150 per person. There are dorms, shared rooms and single rooms.

Last but not least is this unknown gem. Stilts is a tree house accommodation set in 7 acres of tropical forest. It consists of 5 tree houses and 3 cottages. The Stilton Pub, with its funzi beds are perfect for lazying around, is at the centre of the camp, with WiFi available.

It costs Ksh. 1800 per person per night in the tree house, while it’s Ksh 1,000 per person per night for a cottage of 4. Very affordable prices if you ask me.
